Longer Bio

Susan loves stories. Her first and most precious memories include leaning into her mother as she read books aloud to her and her brothers. Continuing the tradition, she read aloud to her four children relishing the threads of connection, joy, overcoming, adventure, and laughter. Now that her children are mostly grown and flown, she is writing children’s books. Her debut picture book, Martin Snell and his Worm Hotel was inspired by her family’s compost adventure, on the dual mission to reduce the amount of trash headed to the landfill, and to give back to the Earth.

Susan lives in San Diego with her husband, their youngest son, and their dog Koa. She has a B.A. in History from Claremont McKenna College, is a member of SCBWI and the Alliance of Independent Authors. She loves playing outdoors, singing into the wind, and imagining what could be.
